Our name honors the tradition of the small, garden-fringed boutique hotels where hospitality was personal and every guest had a name, not a room number. We started as a review site for these quaint English and European hideaways, championing the “small is beautiful” philosophy.

But as our own families grew, our travel needs changed. We needed more space than a single hotel room could provide, yet we refused to succumb to the soulless anonymity of mega-resorts. We began searching for properties that offered the privacy of a home with the service of a boutique hotel.

This search led us to the tropics. Today, we specialize in reviewing high-end vacation rentals, with a specific focus on bali family villas. We look for properties that offer lush gardens (our “shrubbery” roots), safety for children, and the kind of personalized care that turns a chaotic family trip into a restful vacation.
